Congratulations to Nicholas Portanier who won our Caring Award for July for going the extra mile.

Nicholas was working at Sandown Park Racecourse on 24 June this year, supporting the Vaccination Centre which had relocated from Epsom Downs Racecourse. A colleague had not arrived to work which was out of character as no one had heard from him. Nicholas' caring nature for his colleagues told him something wasn't right! He spoke to the manager on site and requested the address, insisting on going to his house to check. On arrival he found his colleague on the floor, the other side of the front door. He alerted neighbours, called 999 and when he eventually gained access to the property it was evident his colleague had suffered a stroke! Nicholas stayed with his colleague, reassuring and comforting him as well as contacting his daughter. The medical staff at the hospital advised that if it wasn't for Nicholas' gut instinct on the day, his colleague would not have survived! His caring nature doesn't stop there: he is always on hand to support his colleagues, whether it's making them a cuppa, providing snacks and treats or just being a good listener if someone needs to talk whilst still completing all his duties and some when on site! Well done Nicholas.

As a result, his contribution has been recognised as a valued part of the Vaccination Centre team and he has received an invitation from the Rt. Hon Chris Grayling to a Terrace Reception at the Houses of Parliament in December. We hope you enjoy it, Nicholas, as it is thoroughly deserved.
